At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange feel the excitement and pulse of the busy world of futures trading.  Your special guide will give a 30 minute presentation in a Gallery overlooking the trading floor.  Learn about the colored jackets and signals.  Visit the state-of-the-art Visitors Center where interactive kiosks and videos will help you understand the origins of the futures industry and how it influences the world’s economy

Visit the Merchandise Mart, a showcase for designers and decorators.  On this 90 minute tour, your guide will tell you all about the latest trends and show how you can update your home and office, as you look through the large windows of showrooms open “only to the trade”. Beside a historical overview of the 25 story building your will be guided to view showrooms that represent the Commercial, Residential, Kitchen & Bath, Decorative Accessories and Gift Floors.

Behind the Scenes

Chicago is a city on the go, but how does it work?  Go behind the scenes at a theater, the symphony, a department store, an art gallery, the Lyric Opera, the Federal Courtroom, a chef’s cooking school, the Chicago Board of Trade, a bakery, a candy company, or a brewery.  Outlet visits may be included.

Three Pompeii’s in Chicago

Through March 26, 2006

Your special Chicago Adventures tour guide will lead you a visit to three Pompeiis in Chicago.  The first stop is the unique exhibition at the Field Museum which presents beside the jewelry, artworks and archaeological finds, plaster casts of the lava molds formed around human beings trying to flee the catastrophe.  The Field Museum is the only North American venue for this Spectacular Exhibition.  Audio tour rental and admission are included.

The second stop is lunch in Little Italy at the Pompeii restaurant.

The third stop is a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, and a tour of Chicago’s “Little Italy” neighborhood.

King Tut in Chicago  

May 26, 2006 through January 1, 2007

The boy King Tut has returned to Chicago, and brought his family. The Field Museum will host 130 gold and jeweled treasures of the ancient boy pharaoh, his fellow royalty and relatives from Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. See Instead of the objects from the old exhibit of 1977, you will see other objects taken from his tomb, including Tut’s gold crown inlaid with semi-precious stones, his falcon-engraved dagger, and a small coffin for his mummified organs.  Much of the rest of the priceless collection comes from other royal tombs, many 3,500 years old!

Enjoy a delicious Mediterranean lunch in a restaurant.

Select from one of the following three options :( 1) A guided tour of the Egyptian Galleries at the Oriental Institute on the campus of the University of Chicago, including a statue of Tut. (2) A 90-minute “Royal Cruise” on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. It’s not the Nile River, but you will feel like royalty as you explore the city’s two great waterways. (3) Visit a modern-day Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church.
